Nae Yagi - Detailed Profile

Nae Yagi, born in 1984 in Osaka, is a professional ice climber. She has been familiar with mountain climbing and rock climbing since childhood.

She won the 6th Kinki High School Climbing Championship in 2001, and as expected, defended her title in 2002 while also placing 3rd at the Asian Youth Championship in Malaysia, emerging as the "High School Girl Climber Star."

After high school, she won the JOC Junior Olympic Cup Junior Division, placed 2nd in the National Sports Festival Adult Women's Division (both in 2003), won the 7th JFA Youth Championship (2004), placed 8th at the Asian Championship (2005), and continued to achieve excellent results including many cup competitions across Japan.

While being regarded as a climber who would carry the next generation of climbing, she gradually shifted her focus to ice climbing from the 2009 season. She explains, "When I thought about competing and making a living from it, I chose a place where I could reach the top." After university, she joined Maruhan Corporation, becoming Japan's first corporate climber. She turned professional in the 2013 season, becoming the first Japanese to compete in all Ice Climbing World Cup events.
