Beta Climbing Gym Seminar/Introduction to Dry Tooling

Dry Tooling is climbing using ice axes and crampons on natural rocks or man-made walls.
It is said to be derived from mixed climbing, which involves climbing ice and rock walls. In the first place, in order to climb ice walls and icicles, it was also a necessary technique to first climb the rock wall and transfer from the rock wall to the icicle.
It is exactly the world of the movie “Alpinist”.

Today’s dry tooling focuses on climbing rock walls, and it is now possible to climb not only rock walls but also artificial walls, and the technology has evolved further.

As a competition, the “Ice Climbing World Cup”, which started in 2002 sponsored by the UIAA (International Alpine Federation), is known. The ice climbing competition is said to be the first.
However, the competition in 1912 was all about ice climbing, and it is thought that the current style of climbing rocks did not exist.
Alpine climber Jeff Lowe (1950-2018) is said to have established the rock climbing style with ice axes and crampons. He was introduced in the 1998 issue of “The Latest Technology and Experience of Ice Climbing” and shocked the climbing world.

Dry tooling is a new sport and the cutting edge of alpine climbing.
There are unique moves that are rarely used in ice climbing and alpine climbing, such as figure four, figure nine, and under.

Many climbers not only enjoy competition, but also use it as training for ice climbing and alpine climbing.

By the way, this course, “Introduction to Dry Tooling” is a workshop for dry touring inexperienced people and beginners.
We will explain the difference between dry and ice, tools and moves, and provide practical training. We recommend that even experienced ice climbers take this course before starting dry. Ice and dry are slightly different activities, but dry experience and training will help you improve your ice skills.
If you attend, you can use the 3F dry wall problems outside of the seminar.
In addition, participants in this course may rent the Axe at no charge at any time in the future!
Also, after completing the introduction, if you want to have fun with everyone, please use “Dry tooling training session“.

Even if you are new to Beta drywall, please take this course.
